Friedrich Althoff (1839 - 1908)
Prussian Under-Secretary of Education and Cultural Affairs Friedrich Althoff was one of the most important
persons in Ehrlich's life. Althoff supported Ehrlich during his time
in Berlin and Frankfurt/Main in all means. On Althoff's suggestion Ehrlich
became director of the small Institute of Serum Therapy (Institut für
Serumprüfung und Serumforschung in Steglitz) in Berlin that Althoff
later moved to Frankfurt/Main. The Mayor of Frankfurt, Mr. Adickes,
was also very instrumental in establishing this institute in Frankfurt. |
